how NOT to behave in a crisis situation

Thank you for the kind welcome back. It's nice to know there are still people out there interested in checking in on me. It is much appreciated.

This past week was filled with odd occurrences, not the least of which was my darling puppy getting her right eye scratched by one of our cats. The event went something like this:

- cat runs up to dog and scratches her eye
- dog lets out agonizing whine
- dog's eye starts dropping tears
- Mary looks at dog's eye and FREAKS OUT
- Mary's freaking out scares the dog even more
- Mary starts running around the house trying to get her brain to function because, apparently, in trauma situations, Mary loses all brain function and ability to breathe.
- Eric arrives home and calmly assesses the situation.
- Mary continues to freak out because she can't breathe
- Eric calmly calls vet and finds out what we need to do
- All to go vet
- Mary cries the whole time

As you may be able to tell, I don't handle crisis situations very well. The good news is Zoey has a good prognosis. I'm still extremely worried, fussing over her at every opportunity, but she should be okay.

Poor little girl:

Now, I'll leave you with some photos from a walk in the neighborhood over the weekend. Spring officially begins this week, and the signs of its arrival are everywhere. I couldn't be more pleased.

what exquisite photos of spring! we had one of those collars for our dog once; he promptly figured out some way of getting it off, so we had to come up with Plan B. well wishes for zoey!

so sorry to hear about the pup. so nervewracking.

great photos, though!

I hope Zoey recovers quickly, sounds pretty traumatic for all involved. Your photos are so beautiful, well-composed and have such vibrant colors!

ohhh, i know that feeling of gut wrenching panic...sounds like me when one of my kids get hurt, cept i'm somehow shouting orders while barely able to breath. just can't relax till everything is fixed...hope your pup is feeling better soon.

Ah yes! The cone. My little guy had to wear one once and he was not thrilled about it. It's funny how you react when something happen to your pet. It makes ya realize how much these little guys mean to you. Your photo's are beautiful by the way.

I am so sorry to hear about the puppy! I hope she heals quickly. That cone, I think our dogs have pupmares about that thing. Feel better Zoey. Thank you for the wonderful pictures, such beautiful flowers!

Dogs in cones are a sad sight indeed. Our 8-month old pup got neutered, had his dewclaws removed, ripped the stitches, got kennel cough and then a site infection... long story short - the cone was on for over a month and now I've got lots of walls to touch up. After a new paint job. Ugh.

Take care of that sweet baby! Oh my! I love dogs so very much.....Meme from Screaming Meme's...

That's exactly what I would do/do do. So glad puppers is going to be okay. Darn cats!!!!!!!!!

holy cow - your dog is the puppy version of mine! so cute! if you'd like to see how your baby will look a little grown up, check this out:
